East Devon National Landscape

Sandwiched between the Blackdown Hills and the World Heritage Jurassic Coast is the East Devon National Landscape – often overlooked but stunningly beautiful, unspoilt farmland in lush green valleys off the beaten track. The local flint stone buildings enhance the soft vistas belying the quality of life enjoyed by residents.  A stronghold of dairy and sheep farming as is much of Devon but in recent years the land has supported successful vineyards producing still and sparkling wines of note.

The focal town with a population of circa 2000 is Colyton, lying on the Coly River with a recorded history dating back to the eight century. Of particular note is the imposing St. Andrews parish church with its octagonal lantern tower.  Long gone are the mills but still functioning is the oak barrel tannery. Colyton Grammer School retains its independence and is regularly one of the highest achieving Ofsted rated schools in the country. Dating back to 1546 is also one of the oldest. Now resited to the nearby Colyford in a modern campus  it attracts parents to move to the area specifically for the children to attend the school - a benefit to Recoco Property Search as Devon Buying Agents acting for clients relocating for that special property.  With a wide choice of  farms and estates, period and modern houses in town, village and rural settings there are options in all budgets.

Crossing the A3052 the nearby towns along the Jurassic Coast offer both country and coastal opportunities for business and recreational purposes. The South West Coast Path runs along  the Jurassic Coast which runs from Orcombe Point, Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks at Studland Bay, Dorset at stretch of 96 miles. Passing famous beauty spots and villages including Durdle Door, Lyme Regis, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton to name just a few.
